This year, you could once again honor your loved ones who have passed away with music and dance, moments of reflection, creative workshops during the fall break, and much more! Here is a selection from the program of this 7th edition:

29/10 & 1/11 Workshops Son Jarocho 📍 MetX

A two-session workshop with the musicians of the Son Jarocho trio Que Siempre Sí. Open to both amateur and professional musicians, who can bring their own instruments, or play with jaranas (rhythm guitar) and other typical Son Jarocho instruments on hand.

30/10 Concert Que Siempre Sí 📍 Centre Culturel Bruegel

This Son Jarocho trio is made up of Anna Arisméndez, Stephanie Delgado and Mariel Henry Rojo, three travelling musicians who have turned their professional careers into a journey to the heart of Mexican musical traditions.

31/10  Poetic and Musical Stroll at the Cemetery 📍 Cimetière de Saint-Gilles

A walk at dusk in collaboration with Muziekpublique. Eight musicians from all over the world will perform funeral songs in their native languages, offering a musical tribute to death rooted in diverse traditions.

01/11 Fandango de Son Jarocho 📍 Centre Culturel Bruegel

A jam session that brings together musicians, dancers and singers, as well as residents of Les Marolles and beyond, around the tarima, a wooden platform on which couples practise zapateado, a form of traditional Mexican tap dancing.

02/11 La Procesión & Closing concert 📍 Parc des Brigittines

Come and join us for the Grande Procesión! We will start at Place du Jeu de Balle and walk through Les Marolles to the Parc des Brigittines, for the closing concert by the Mexican trio Que Siempre Sí and Banda Quetzal.

This 7th edition of Día de Muertos has ramifications far beyond the Marolles:

  • Banda Quetzal will play in Tournai on 26 October at the local Festival de La Mort Qui Tue.
  • On 31 October, we will again provide fireworks in Ghent during the celebrations organised there by Bij' De Vieze Gasten since 2023.
  • In the coming weeks, some Día de Muertos artists will travel between the Marolles and Saint-Gilles: in collaboration with DoucheFlux they will organise workshops around the creation of offerings to commemorate deceased homeless people during the Procesión on 2 November.
