Aurélie Charneux
- Brass
- Parade
This year, clarinettist and composer Aurélie Charneux will benefit from our wild card to develop her music-theatre brass band Aerofaunic. Given the abundance of applications for our 2025 project call (over forty!), we are also offering logistical, artistic and production support to Badi, Jaouad Alloul and several other artists.
In addition to supporting our regular musicians and productions, MetX always provides space for new artists or surprising formats. After ESINAM, Robbe Latré and Karen Van Schaik in recent years, we are happy to welcome clarinettist and composer Aurélie Charneux (Klezmic Zirkus, Mamaliga Orkestar, Trio Charneux-Leleux-Puma, etc.) in 2025. She will have the opportunity to develop a new creation under our wings.
Wild Card for Aerofaunic
In the music-theatre pocket band Aerofaunic, Aurélie is surrounded by 4 musicians with very different artistic backgrounds: Emmanuel Baily (Wang Wei Quartet, André Borbé, ...) on sax, guitar and composition, trumpeter Rosalie Ballereau (System Trappist), tuba player Gilles Kremer (Kermesz à l'Est, La Compagnie Renard Noire, ...) and Sara Moonen on percussion (Lay This Drum, Ze Pocket Koral, ...).
Inspired by jazz, Balkan and Latin music and even classical-medieval themes, Aurélie and Emmanuel have created a unique style in which the musicians improvise with their instruments as well as their voices and body movements. As part of this Wild Card, they will be working on musical storytelling, interaction with the audience and interventions in the public space.
Corps & Âme by Badi
Badibanga Ndeka, an emblematic figure from the Brussels Afro-Urban scene with an outspoken vision on themes such as social justice and decolonisation, can also count on our support this year. With his brand new creation ‘Corps & Âme’, in collaboration with Brussels musicians Amin Kanzi (percussion) and Youri Botterman (guitar, keyboard, producer), he wants to set up an artistic project with former Congolese rumba stars living in Belgium. We'll be exploring with him how he can also highlight the role of female artists in this process.
Jaouad Alloul & Jiraan invite Al-Idrisi
Singer-performer Jaouad Alloul and musician Shalan Alhamwy, along with five musicians from the Jiraan ensemble, are working on a musical and theatrical performance based on the 12th-century geographer and explorer Al-Idrisi. After drafting the initial texts and repertoires, they want to explore, with the help of some MetX musicians, how traditional music and dance from the continents explored by Al-Idrisi, such as North African gnawa music or Brazilian capoeira, can enrich the visual language of the performance.
Support for other artists
We also provide logistical and production support for a number of applications for our Wild Card project call. In particular, by allowing them to use our rehearsal space and recording studio to develop their creations. And we keep the door open for them to possible collaborations with emerging projects and events organised by MetX or our partners.
