Ejaspapa Gnonlonfoun is a drummer, percussionist, bassist, and composer from Benin. As a musician, he has played and composed for various MetX projects and groups: Bagadski, Gankpo, Marockin’ Brass, AGO Benin Brass and most recently Sheikhs Shikhats & B’net Chaabi. Since 2023, he has been coordinating the GanGan The New Style project, which focuses on talking drums and West African polyrhythms.

Master of traditional & contemporary polyrhythms

Ejas studied traditional West African polyrhythms at the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers des Arts et de Culture (Esmac-Hwendo) in Cotonou.

Ejas studied traditional West African polyrhythms at the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers des Arts et de Culture (Esmac-Hwendo) in Cotonou. Thanks to his perfect mastery of the traditional and modern polyrhythms of West Africa, he has already performed with many group, like The Peas Project, Baloji & la Katuba, Azéto orchestra, Gospel for life, Weli, Gangbé Brass Band, Jomion & les Uklo’s en Tangawissi.

For several years he has been organizing polyrhythmic training courses for professionals in Cotonou, as well as presentation and musical initiation workshops for beginner musicians in Belgium.
