With FRAP! we are launching a new artistic project working with the residents of the neighbourhoods around the Gare du Midi. Through specific interventions in the public space, this project aims to draw attention to themes such as well-being, mobility and climate. On 27 June, FRAP! will perform for the first time at the Fête des Voisins in Les Marolles.
Famille de Rythmiques & Activisme Permanents (FRAP!) is a hybrid, mobile ensemble composed of percussion group Salamba and OOAA!, a collective around movement and improvisation. Through the use of accessible percussion music, movement and other art forms, this collective is forging a core repertoire to which other musicians and dancers of all levels and horizons can be added.
The group plays unamplified and can pop-up anywhere: neighbourhood festivals, parades and other socio-cultural events. It can also be used as a kind of guerrilla street band at demonstrations or citizen actions.
Want to see them perform?
Join us on Friday 27 June at the Fête des Voisins in Les Marolles. From 5.45pm to 6.45pm, they will be marching via Rue des Tanneurs, Boulevard du Midi, Avenue de Stalingrad and Terre Neuve. As part of an action carried out in partnership with the non-profit organisation SoHab, they want to raise awareness among local residents and others of the risk of heat stress in summer.
FRAP! is an initiative by MetX and various partners as part of the Urban Renewal Contract “Around the Gare du Midi” (URC7), initiated by the Brussels-Capital Region and the City of Brussels. In partnership with Hoofdstedelijke Academie, CEC Mercredis Artistiques, CBAI, HalfmOon, Tas d'Os and SoHab.
