Traditionally passed down from father to son, the practice of tagnawit or Gnawa art has remained a male preserve for centuries. But recently, this artistic and mystical culture has been opening up more and more to women, both in Morocco and in other countries where Gnawa musicians have settled. Following in the footsteps of Moroccan mâalemas such as Asma Hamzaoui and Hind Ennaira, the Bnat Koyo project aims to facilitate the learning and practice of this music for all women who feel drawn to it.
