On Saturday 30 May, the Zinneke Parade will once again transform the centre of Brussels into a hub of collective creativity, diversity and resilience. For this 14th edition, themed around ‘Dream’ (de Droom - Le Rêve), our youngsters from Fanfakids and Strak-X will also let their imagination run wild through the Zinnode ‘Dreams of a Black Star’ and the pop-up ensemble BIS.
The non-profit organisation Kuumba presents a Zinnode that dreams, imagines and comes to life to the rhythm of the African diaspora that shapes Brussels – and, by extension, Belgium. In collaboration with Fanfakids and groups from Matongé, Cureghem, City of Brussels, Charleroi, Liège, Antwerp and even the Netherlands, they weave powerful narratives of connection and imagination to form a unique, vibrant ensemble. Following an initial try out at the Soumonce in Molenbeek on 10 May, they will parade alongside the 14 other Zinnodes on 30 May in the city centre from 3 pm to 5 pm.
After the parade, Zinneke invites all participants and the public to a grand closing party organised in collaboration with the Kunstenfestivaldesarts. The pop-up ensemble BIS will kick off this Fiesta Finale at the Ancienne Belgique. BIS brings together the youth percussion groups from DeBATTERIJ (Leuven), MJ Indigo (La Louvière) and Strak-X (Brussels), many of whose musicians have already taken part in the Zinneke Parade in recent years. Joined by the dancers from OOAA! and the UCB Crew, they will put on a breathtaking opening show at around 10.30 pm and lead young and old alike into the night to party!
