From 16 to 24 April, the 7th edition of BRuMM, the annual festival dedicated to promoting migrant music in Brussels, will take place. Among the featured artists is our musician, Isra Alonso. On 21 April, he will take part in a meet and greet with artists, followed by a new Fusion Fandango, which he is organising at Maison de la Création – Bockstael in Laeken.
In collaboration with four cultural centres, BRuMM creates spaces for people to meet, learn and share experiences. The festival combines concerts, study days, creative residencies, outreach activities and audiovisual productions. The full programme is available at brummfestival.be, here are our highlights:
21/04 17:30 - 18:30 📍 Maison de la Création
Every year, the festival organises a meet and greet with artists, punctuated by musical performances that offer an insight into the musicians’ craft. On 21 April at Maison de la Création, a range of ethnomusicologists, sociologists and anthropologists will explore the theme of transmission in conversation with three artists: Cumali Bulduk, Renette Désir and Isra Alonso.
Driven by a passion for passing on Mexican traditions, our musician Isra Alonso develops repertoires, music ensembles and events with a socio-artistic dimension. He also teaches traditional Mexican music (Son Jarocho), music theory and singing at the Muziekpublique Academy and during the various workshops organised in the run-up to our Fusion Fandangos. During this event, he will present a musical interlude at 5.30 pm, followed by a discussion with Marco Martiniello, Honorary Director of CEDEM (ULiège).
21/04 19:30 - 21:30 📍 Maison de la Création
At the Fusion Fandangos, Isra Alonso and MetX invite musicians and dancers from all backgrounds and levels to gather around a wooden stage, or ‘Tarima’, to sing, dance and play music. For this 6th edition, organised as part of the BRuMM Festival, we invite you to a concert followed by a jam session with Isra Alonso featuring Mexican percussionist Osvaldo Hernández and Congolese guitarist Shak Shakito.
As a warm-up for the Fusion Fandango, you can take part in a free workshop on traditional dance and music on 20 April from 7pm to 9.30pm at Maison de la Création. Read more
