re#encounter album release & party @ Recyclart

This autumn, the hybrid jazz-trance collective re#encounter will release their debut album angels and demons at play on the W.E.R.F. Records label. Fancy partying with them to their mix of gnawa rhythms, cumbia vocals, griot storytelling and ecstatic improvisations? Save the date for the release party on 18 September at Recyclart!

Following their debut single ‘Sidi Moussa’, released this spring, the collective – comprising, amongst others, trumpet player Robbe Bey Latré, mâalem Hicham Bilali, griot Kaito Winse, bass player Paula Leone and flutist Lúcia Pires – will release their debut album on 18 September.

With authentic gnawa grooves, cumbia vocals, griot storytelling and ecstatic improvisations, the musicians bring to life a spiritual jazz idiom in the spirit of Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and Shabaka Hutchings, whilst adding their own distinctive Brussels twist. In short, Afrofuturism with a local flavour!
