re#encounter brings people together during festive ceremonies around ‘trance jazz’. With Gnawa grooves, cumbia chants, griot storytelling and ecstatic improvisations, the group led by Robbe Bey Latré creates a lively, danceable sound that reflects the city's cultural diversity.
The project took root in 2024 following a carte blanche granted to founder Robbe Bey Latré by MetX. In search of an accessible yet anthropologically dense way to foster dialogue across musical traditions, Robbe brought together some of the most captivating voices from Brussels’ jazz and worldwide music scene.
Modeled on the Brooklyn Raga Massive, the collective aims to create an innovative hub around gnawa, cumbia or griot culture in Brussels and beyond. Through hybrid live performances, jams, ceremonies, workshops and storytelling, they progressively develop their repertoire and audience.
Meanwhile, re#encounter's performances have become true urban rituals. Music, visual effects and audience participation merge into a collective experience. Their first album, Angels & Demons @ Play, will be released in September 2026 on W.E.R.F. Records.
